Privacy Policy
Last updated: April 19, 2026
AnuLaya ("the App") is developed by AnuLaya. This privacy policy describes how we collect, use, and protect your information.
Anonymous Use
You can use AnuLaya without creating an account. On first launch, the app creates an anonymous session using Firebase Anonymous Authentication. This gives you a unique identifier so your playlists and practice data are saved — but no personal information (name, email, etc.) is collected.
Anonymous users can browse and play compositions, create playlists, and practice. Creating compositions, sharing playlists, and saving practice sessions require signing in.
Anonymous data persists as long as the app is installed. If you later sign in with Apple, Google, or email, your anonymous data is automatically linked to your account and syncs across devices.
Information We Collect
Account Information
If you choose to sign in with Apple, Google, or email, we collect:
- Email address (Apple Sign-In allows you to hide your real email using Apple's private relay — we only see the relay address)
- Display name
- Profile photo (Google Sign-In only)
This information is used to identify your compositions, playlists, and practice sessions. If you remain anonymous, none of this information is collected.
User-Generated Content
Whether anonymous or signed in, we store:
- Compositions you create (title, author, notation, settings)
- Playlists you create or follow
- Practice session data (scores, timing, cycle-by-cycle accuracy)
Audio Recordings
When you use Practice mode, the app accesses your device microphone to provide real-time feedback. Practice sessions may be recorded and saved to your account. You can review, share, or delete any recording from the Practice tab at any time.
Usage Data
We collect basic usage data to improve the app experience. This data is not shared with third parties.
How We Use Your Information
- To provide and maintain the App's functionality
- To save and sync your compositions, playlists, and practice sessions across devices
- To improve practice scoring, stroke recognition, and related AI/ML models using anonymized audio and session data
- To display your compositions and playlists to other users (when published or shared)
Data Storage
Your data is stored using Firebase Authentication and Cloud Firestore, provided by Google. Data is stored on servers in the United States. For more information, see Google's privacy policy.
Audio recordings are stored in Firebase Cloud Storage.
Display preferences (script, default tempo) are stored locally on your device.
Data Sharing
We do not sell or trade your personal data with third parties. Audio recordings and practice session data may be used to train and improve AnuLaya's AI and machine learning models for practice scoring, stroke classification, and rhythm analysis. This data is used in anonymized form and is not shared externally for purposes unrelated to the App.
Your Choices
- Publishing: Compositions and playlists are private by default. You choose when to publish or share them.
- Practice recordings: You can delete any practice session or audio recording at any time from the Practice tab.
- Account deletion: You can delete your account and all associated data from the Settings screen.
- Anonymous use: You can browse, play, create playlists, and practice without signing in. Playlists are saved under an anonymous identifier. Practice session data is not saved until you sign in.
- Sign-in upgrade: When you sign in, your anonymous data is linked to your account. No data is lost.
Children's Privacy
AnuLaya does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. The App is designed for general audiences interested in learning tabla.
