Guru Shri Satish Tare

AnuLaya is inspired by the teaching of Shri Satish Tare of Tabla Niketan. Many of the compositions and pedagogical ideas in this app draw from his guidance and the rich tradition of tabla education he represents.

Pt. Satish Tare is a tabla artist who began learning at the age of 5 from his father, Late Shri Madhav Tare, and went on to train under Pt. Arvind Mulgaonkar, Pt. Vibhav Nageshkar, and Shri Vivek Joshi. He currently studies under Pt. Swapan Chaudhuri. He performs as a solo artist and accompanist across the United States, and teaches the next generation of tabla students through Tabla Niketan in California.

Tabla Niketan

Tabla Niketan is a tabla school founded by Shri Satish Tare in the Bay Area, California. The school follows the traditional Guru-Shishya approach to tabla education — developing understanding in tabla stroke techniques, recitation of bols, and theory of rhythm.

Tabla Niketan offers group classes organized by age and skill level, one-on-one training, and online classes. The school regularly hosts workshops featuring accomplished tabla maestros and provides students with performance opportunities at local competitions and events.
